In less than a summer, shy and introverted Robbie Myers goes from eighteen and never been kissed to the passionate intensity of first love that could last forever. Literally…

Eighteen-year-old Robbie Myers has difficulty talking to people. Not only is he shy, but he seems to say the wrong thing every time he opens his mouth, especially to the mysterious, handsome stranger who shows up at his supermarket job, defends him from an aggressive colleague and then asks him on a date. He can't believe a hot, worldly badboy like seventeen-year-old Colt Abernathy is actually interested. Yet he can’t deny that the ardor burning in Colt’s dark eyes is just for him. In the space of one breath, Robbie is launched from his plan to attend community college while living at home with his mom and saving up for a car to the tender yet passionate exploration of intense first love. Little does Robbie know…

Brought across during the height of the Civil War, Colt has remained trapped in the body of a lonely seventeen year old. When he spots the slim, blond-haired, blue eyed young man, pushing a line of shopping carts across a parking lot, Colt knows instantly they’re destined for each other. There’s just one major problem if he survives the impending battle between vampires and the Matarians - an army of brutal vampire slayers - he’s going to live forever. Robbie isn’t…

Excerpt

As Robbie stepped outside, he decided to wait around a couple minutes to see what happened with Jerry. If he actually were to be fired, Robbie would see him come out. He stood by the entrance where he still had a clear view of the check stands through the window. About three minutes later, he saw Jerry return to his work area. He began scurrying about, replenishing the bag supply at each check lane. Robbie was relieved. Apparently Jerry hadn’t been canned. He probably just got a lecture and a stern warning from Wandrie.

Most of the other kids who worked at the store didn’t like Mr. Wandrie all that much. They all made fun of him behind his back, probably just because he was the boss. As far as Robbie was concerned, Mr. Wandrie was a pretty decent guy. There were days when the man seemed kind of grouchy, but that was true of everyone.

Robbie wondered for a moment if Mr. Wandrie had heard Jerry call him a faggot. Well, he must have heard. It made Robbie embarrassed, and he hoped Mr. Wandrie didn’t get the wrong idea about him. That’s what guys like Jerry called other people, especially when they were mad. It didn’t really mean anything. It was like when people said something was “gay” just because they didn’t like it. It was like a figure of speech or something.

To be honest, it kind of hurt his feelings. He didn’t understand why Jerry would say something like that to him. Was it that obvious that he was…
“You haven’t left yet?”

Robbie jumped, startled by the voice behind him. He turned to face the kid he saw earlier, the one with the leather jacket. “Oh gosh, you scared me.”

“Sorry, dude.” Leather jacket boy laughed. “Didn’t mean to sneak up on ya.”

“I thought Jerry was getting fired,” Robbie said. “He got called into the manager’s office.”

The kid nodded. “Good. It’s about time.”

“Oh. Um, I didn’t want him to get in trouble or anything. I definitely didn’t want him to, ya know, lose his job.”

“Why not? He’s lazy.”

Robbie shrugged. “He said he wasn’t feeling well.”

Leather jacket boy again laughed. “You’re a pretty…how should I say it…trusting person. Aren’t you?”

“Uh, I don’t know. I guess so.”

“Well, Robbie, I think you should be careful. Some people aren’t all that trustworthy.”
Robbie looked at him. His eyes were darker than before, now almost black. Perhaps it was due to the dim lighting. “How’d you know my name?”

“You were wearing a name badge. I read it before, when you were out here pushing the carts.”

“Oh.”

“My name’s Colt, by the way.”

Forever Young Forever Vampire Book 1 edition by Jeff Erno Les Byerley Literature Fiction eBooks

I have enjoyed Jeff Erno's books before and this book started off so well too.
For most of the book the plot and the characters were developing slowly and thoughtfully. One grew to like them and see how their situations and relationships developed. There were a few too many coincidences among the characters but I could suspend disbelief and go with the flow. The problems arose when the author decided to really rush the ending to this part of the series with a mad mad mad climax. Killing off characters and having others act contrary to the way they seemed to be developing. It all ended too suddenly and inconsistent with what happened before in the book.

I will not read further books in this series although I will try other reads from this author.

Forever Young Forever Vampire Book 1 edition by Jeff Erno Les Byerley Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I was a little bit taken aback by the end. But with reading the second book I found out it wasn't the end at all, more a division of a story in two parts. As usual Jeff Erno has a captivating manner of writing. There are some scenes which are not for the faint of heart, but when you have a bad tempered vampire you can expect something along these lines...
The book was really good. The writing was great and I have read other books from this author and he has gotten better. However I gave this book 4 stars and nit 5 because, I think he killed the main characters too fast and gave too much power to this vampire killing group. Sorry if I gave too much away but I will have a hard time reading the next book knowing that they did all that work to rescue one of their loved ones to only have him killed right away.
I was glad to see that this story will continue in a future book (hope I don't have to wait too long).

I didn't give the book 5 stars for one issue with me. I would have preferred to have the sex implied rather than the detailed descriptions.

Looking forward to what happens next with Robbie and Colt.
I really enjoyed the first 3/4 of the book and was excited to see were it was going until the last 10 or so pages. I didn't even mind the whole rescued then death situation, it worked for my love of irony while still being plausible. After that it went down hill. The ending reminded me of high school papers that had to be finished before the bell rang. Everything was to-the-point- blunt, wrapping up the stories issues in a few short sentences that lacked emotions and detail that was needed to complete the book. And not in a cliff hanger way, but sloppy and rushed.
Always surprising, Jeff Erno gives us a different cast of characters and an alternate reality here in this unusual story. Not my favorite book by this author, but I found myself drawn into an unlikely romance that stretches the bounds of fantasy and reality. Somehow, he made me like it, and for that alone he gets five stars.
After reading Forever Young, I was upset that there wasn't a second book already written for me to read. Halfway into the book, I thought maybe the story would escalate quickly and the book would be complete, but Jeff Erno had other plans. I hope he intends on following through with the "Martians" (you'll understand when you read. hehe) love story, because I think that would make for yet another great book by Erno.
Plot the way the conflict was resolved was completely unacceptable. The easiest, most heartless way (felt like every conflict was tossed into the trash together in 2 pages) to secure a version of happily ever after.
Character development stopped after the first chapter (the innocent boy's character was quite intriguing though, I'll give it that. So… innocent and kind and out of this world). The attempt at exploring the antagonists' struggle was done equally poorly. Not enough for me to care, and oh surprise surprise, they turned out to be no more than tools to help bring about the author's silly little ending.
Writing was alright

this is a trap! Every conflict that gains significance is a weapon to hurt you because the author, will. trash. them. like. rubbish.
